Kitchen Makeover or a New Kitchen? How to Choose
If your cabinets are still solid, you may not need a whole new kitchen. A makeover keeps your cabinets and replaces what you see: the doors, drawer fronts, worktops and sink. It can make a tired kitchen look brand new, for less money and less mess.
A makeover may suit you if…
- Your cabinets are sound, dry and not falling apart.
- You are happy with the layout.
- You want a fresh look without a full rip-out.
- You want the job done faster, with less disruption.
A new kitchen may suit you if…
- Your cabinets are damaged, swollen or worn out.
- You want to change the layout, or you have a new extension.
- You want more storage, like larder pullouts or Le Mans corner units.
- You want everything new, from the cabinets to the appliances.
How much does a kitchen makeover cost?
Most makeovers cost about £1,000 to £5,000, depending on how much you change. Here is a rough guide for new doors and fitting, with our cheapest door. The door price includes the end panels, cornice, pelmet and plinths needed to finish the kitchen.
| Kitchen size | Doors | New doors and panels | Fitting | Rough total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 6–8 | £930–£1,240 | about £1,000 | £1,930–£2,240 |
| Medium | 10–14 | £1,550–£2,170 | about £1,250 | £2,800–£3,420 |
| Large | 15–20 | £2,325–£3,100 | about £1,500 | £3,825–£4,600 |
New worktops, a sink, appliances or a dearer door style add to this. Most makeovers are fitted in just 1 to 3 days.
